A unique planned community in Sarasota County, Lakewood Ranch, Florida, is an 8,500-acre master-planned community on the state's Gulf Coast, near to Interstate 75. It is made up of seven villages with homes ranging from townhouses to single-family homes and custom-built estates. The community was built to be an all-you-need area, and it is home to its own shops, medical facilities, restaurants, schools and anything residents could need.
The community has three 18-hole golf courses, an athletic center with fitness equipment and aquatics, 18 lighted tennis courts, and polo and cricket clubs. More than 150 miles of sidewalks and trails, community parks, lakes and nature preserves cover the community, dotted with native wildlife, as half of the land at the Ranch is set aside for recreational space.
The community has its own Lake Club, just minutes from the Sarasota Polo Club. It has eight shopping districts and its own Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. There nearly two dozen houses of worship. Annually, the village hosts events like Music on Main, Evening Under the Stars, Suncoast WineFestival, Art at the Ranch and Sarasota Magazine's Annual Pug Parade at Lakewood Ranch.
There are seven public schools in Lakewood Ranch, three elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school, plus an academy for students with autism. Additionally, there are the Manatee Community College Center for Innovation and Technology, the Keiser University and Culinary Institute, and campuses for Everglades University, Manatee Technical Institute, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Meridian Career Institute. If that's not enough to meet residents' needs, Manatee Community College, University of South Florida/New College and Ringling College of Art and Design are all nearby as well.
